Hitman Absolution, the fifth installment in the franchise, was released a while back (20th November 2012 for console users, and 24th January 2013 for PC users). Developed by IO Interactive and published by Square-Enix, the team behind the popular Final Fantasy series, this popular series was recently made available free to Xbox Live Gold users in thier 'Games With Gold' promotion. So we thought we'd give you a reveiw. Better late then never!
Primarily set in Chicago, this game continued on from where Hitman:Blood Money left off. With Agent 47's handler going rougue, the first mission tasks you with finding Diana, and bringing a girl currently in her care back to the Agency. During this prologue mission, you are taught the rules of your trade, namely assassination techniques and Agent 47's skills. In this regard he has a new very usefull skill- Instinct Mode. In this mode Agent 47 can predict his enemies movements, allowing the player to plan out his next move.
In keeping with the standered practice of subtelty, during your Assassenations you can assume the idenities of people around you by rendering them unconsious or killing them-quietly. In the first mission (or prologue) you can assume various incognito roles such as the chef, gardener, or security to name a few. By sneaking around and interacting with the enviroment and listening to people around you, the unsuspecting passers by can give you clues as to how to take out or distract certain personnell, aiding your cause and making you job that little bit easier.

A moment of controversy in regards to the release of this game involved one of the trailers. Titled 'Attack of The Saints', it showed a group of gun toting PVC clad Nuns blowing up Agent 47's hotel, which is promtly followed by a fairly impressive fight sequence. This trailer caused controversy over the overly sexist portrayal of women! What with lingering ass shots, blood splatter of cleavage etc..but at the end of the day this is Hitman. A statement later released by IO's director apologised for the trailer, stating it was 'not the intention of the trailer'. This trailer I will include below for your pleasure.
After the games release, it recieved very well scored reveiws from most sites, including 9/10 from IGN, 8.5/10 from Destructoid, and 8.75/10 from Game Informer. However there were alot of people complaining about problems including freezing, crashing, and more worryingly corrupting save games. A patch was eventually released, however it took a while, and there are a number of people who still to this day claim they have problems.
After giving this game a play through, we at Simply Gaming would give this an 8 out of 10. The game is very enjoyable, and really brings you into the game with its easy enough controls, the stealth or loud style of gameplay which you can choose to go through, and the fact it does make you think about how to get to your target(s).
