So, this weekend I got to play Bioshock Infinite! Now, I will openly admit that I haven't personally played Bioshock 1 or 2. However, I have watched Andy and some of our friends play so I get the general gist! I do plan to play them soon!
Anyways, back to Bioshock Infinite. I was alittle gutted that this title was not seen at Eurogamer last year, as I would have loved to have chance to have played it. However, coming up to it's release I have been keeping an eye and watching trailers, gameplay videos, etc. and even watched an episode of RAW just to see the trailer they put on there (wasn't worth watching through RAW for, I tell ya now!). I have been getting gradually more and more excited by this game! So when I managed to get hold of a copy before release to play, I knew I had to have a go. Having loved it, I decided to review!
First point, the graphics. They have blown me away with how beautiful this game is! Of course, it does still have that animated look to it, it's not trying to be life-like as Black Ops 2 for example, but the beauty that the production team have done an amazing job.

The city of Columbia, as seen in this photo, is breathtaking. Columbia is basically a floating city in the sky, founded by Washington, Franklin and Jefferson.
When you start the game, you are just arriving in Columbia - the city in the sky. It's 1912, with a difference.
The controls, I have been told, are very similar to Bioshock 1. The weapons are very Bioshock-esque, with a weapon to suit everyone - pistol, shotgun, carbine rifle and machine gun. Also, there is a brilliant melee weapon.

The sky hook is the first weapon you get, closely followed by the pistol. It works as a brutal melee weapon, causing blood to fly every where as you stick it into someone's throat! It also works to attach to the skylines to get from place to place with ease! I love this part, as it's cool especially to see all the sights of columbia!
You also can use magical powers called Vigors. These include Shock Jockey, Bucking Bronco, Return To Sender, Murder Of Crows, Possession, Undertow, Devils Kiss, Charge. So far, having played a few hours, I only have Murder of Crows, Possession and Devil's Kiss.

BUCKING BRONCO Allows players to levitate enembies and objects for a period of time. | DEVIL'S KISS Allows pyrokinetic abilities to throw grenade-like fireballs and fire traps. | POSSESSION Turn machines and people into allies for a period of time, and can make vending machines give you money. |
MURDER OF CROWS Allows Booker to call a swarm of crows to attack his enemies, and plant crow traps too. | SHOCK JOCKEY Allows Booker to be able to stun enemies, making them unable to move for a period of time. Can also be used with Elizabeth's weather-changing ability to cause lightening strikes, electrocuting enemies. | CHARGE Allows Booker to charge into a targeted enemy, dealing a high amount of melee damage. |
UNDERTOW Booker can manipulate a tendril of water. It allows Booker to push enemies backwards, and pull far away enemies closer | RETURN TO SENDER A defensive talent that sends back incoming hostile projectiles |
This game is superb, and it is a nice breath of fresh air on the previous two underwater Bioshock games. The story is definitely a winning point for me, as it's nothing too heavy or too much too quickly either. It's the basics of finding Elizabeth and then taking her to New York. She is a handful though! Causing detours and a couple of optional missions on the side. It is a nice long game as well, which after Tomb Raider's short 10-15 hours of gameplay is certainly a welcome change.
With the superb game controls, the stunning graphics and scenery, the historical correctness with the religions and racial issues, and the wonderful story and character developments, this game has completely blown me away. I am very impressed, and anyone considering this game I would definitely tell them to go for it. Definitely worth it.
Bioshock Infinite is due for release tomorrow, Tuesday 26th March. Available from pretty much all gaming retailers, make sure to pick yourself up a copy! :)
